Summer is finally here!

While this summer may look a little different than previous years, there are ways you and your family can enjoy the sunshine, great outdoors, and all the little things in between.

Here at Hoskinson Orthodontics, we want to help our patients and their families make the most of their summer vacation. If you or your child has braces, here’s what you need to know about orthodontic care this summer!

Schedule Your Family’s Dental Cleanings

As dental offices begin reopening across Scotia, NY, and Schenectady County, now is the time to schedule your next dental cleaning. Because of new safety measures in place for COVID-19, your dentist may be limiting the number of patients they treat in the office at one time.

Call your dentist’s office to see how far in advance they’re scheduling dental cleanings and checkups. If you can, try to book an appointment for the entire family so everyone can have their teeth cleaned and checked out in one visit.

Appointments for New Patients

If you’re interested in orthodontic care for you or your child, call our office at 518-372-3424. We are currently accepting new patients who are interested in braces, Invisalign, early orthodontic treatment, and other services.

Hoskinson Orthodontics has made some changes to how we operate in response to COVID-19. Because we are limiting the number of patients we see at one time, our office asks new patients to call as soon as possible. That way, we can make arrangements so you’re able to meet with our orthodontist and take the next steps towards treatment.

Participate in Our Face Mask Contest!

To practice safety and make light of our current situation, Hoskinson Orthodontics is holding a Face Mask Contests for patients of ALL ages! Participants can show off their decorated/stylish mask by wearing them to their next appointment or uploading their photos and tagging us on Facebook or Instagram.

There’s no shortage of ways you can decorate a face mask - and you don’t need to be a professional sewer, either!

You can paint and marker a design on a utility mask (otherwise known as a disposable dust mask). You can also glue on rhinestones, sequins, embellishments, and other paper crafting supplies.

Put your sewing skills to the test by attaching ribbon, colored threading, or felt to your face mask. If you’re looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, create DIY masks and participate in our contest! For ideas and inspiration, check out these projects and video tutorials.

Enjoy Braces-Friendly Summer Foods

Even though you shouldn’t bite into a frozen popsicle or a corn-on-the-cob with braces, there are still ways to enjoy all the best summer foods!

Those with braces can indulge in soft, easy-to-chew foods like ice cream, cubed watermelon, and sliced fresh vegetables. When eating shish kabobs, ribs, steaks, or other meats, be sure to enjoy these foods with a fork and knife. Avoid biting into hard icy treats, taffy, pizza crust, popcorn, and until your braces come off, you will have to enjoy corn-OFF-the-cob for the time being.
