With changes happening everyday in our community during the COVID-19 outbreak, Hoskinson Orthodontics is taking steps to ensure the safety of our patients, workers, and their families.

While the residents of Scotia, NY have had to adjust to a new norm in their daily lives, so will small businesses and health clinics throughout our community. As areas and communities begin reopening across New York in the weeks ahead, Hoskinson Orthodontics is taking preventative, proactive measures to ensure we can treat patients in a safe environment.

Despite the new set of circumstances we all face, the team at Hoskinson Orthodontics is looking forward to seeing our patients (in face masks and all.) Here’s what you can expect at your next orthodontist appointment!

Adherence to Safety Rules & Guidelines

Infection control has always been a top priority at our practice. With new updates and safety measures around COVID-19 happening everyday, our practice continues to follow infection control procedures and practice management guidelines set in place by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

Our staff will monitor new updates on safety rules and guidelines. Our staff will also monitor our symptoms every day, wash our hands, and practice good hygiene in all of our daily operations. We will continue to make careful use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and utilize the necessary equipment and supplies to keep our staff and patients safe.

What You Can Expect at Your Orthodontist Appointment

During the COVID-19 outbreak, patients can expect to see some changes in the way we operate here at Hoskinson Orthodontics. These new changes are in place to limit contact between our staff and patients.

Prior to your orthodontist appointment, you can complete your patient forms online. Our office will ask you a set of screening questions before your appointment, as well. When you arrive at our office on the day of your appointment, you will be asked those same questions again.

Maintaining social distancing between patients is our utmost priority when scheduling appointments. This means we will have to cut down on the number of patients we see in a day. There will be fewer options available when scheduling your appointment. Our staff is available to work around your schedule and allot enough time so you’re seen with minimal waiting time in our office.

Before entering our facility, one of our staff members will greet you in the parking lot to take your temperature. All patients are required to wear a mask before entering. We will also provide hand sanitizer for you to apply before entering, and we will also have sanitizer available throughout our facility.

If you are bringing your child or relative to their appointment, we recommend that you wait in the parking lot. We will reduce the number of patients allowed in the reception area at any one time, and we will no longer offer magazines and children’s toys in our waiting room.

How to Keep Yourself Safe at Home

We understand that the COVID-19 outbreak and need for social distancing has created challenges for our orthodontic patients. While we will be able to schedule appointments for all of our patients, we will also be striving to minimize non-emergency appointments as much as possible. To do this, our team is prepared to communicate with our patients and help them take care of their braces and oral appliances at home.

At home, it’s essential to keep tools and supplies handy to address common orthodontic issues. These include:

  • Orthodontic relief wax
  • Dental floss
  • Disinfected tweezers
  • Q-Tips
  • Salt
  • Proxy brush
  • Toothpicks
  • Non-prescription pain reliever (acetaminophen or ibuprofen)
  • Topical anesthetic

Our office is open to answer your questions should you or your child encounter any issues, such as protruding wire, mouth irritation and discomfort, or lost “O” ring. We will work closely with you on the phone or over a tele-medicine appointment to help you address the issue until you are able to be seen in our office.
